A transcriptome analysis of mitten crab testes (Eriocheir sinensis) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Zhang,Wei; Wan,Haolei; Jiang,Hui; Zhao,Yunlong; Zhang,Xiaowei; Hu,Songnian; Wang,Qun.
The identification of expressed genes involved in sexual precocity of the mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is critical for a better understanding of its reproductive development. To this end, we constructed a cDNA library from the rapid developmental stage of testis of E. sinensis and sequenced 3,388 randomly picked clones. After processing, 2,990 high-quality expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were clustered into 2,415 unigenes including 307 contigs and 2,108 singlets, which were then compared to the NCBI non-redundant (nr) protein and nucleotide (nt) database for annotation with Blastx and Blastn, respectively. After further analysis, 922 unigenes were obtained with concrete annotations and 30 unigenes were found to have functions possibly related to the...

An Anthropometry Study of the Shoulder Region in a Chinese Population and its Correlation with Shoulder Disease International Journal of Morphology
Yu,Ming-Yang; Zhang,Wei; Zhang,De-Bao; Zhang,Xiao-Dong; Gu,Gui-Shan.
Purpose: There is a paucity of data which reflected the relationship between morphology and incidence of shoulder disorders with respect to the ethnic Chinese population. We used anteroposterior radiographs to measure the Acromion Index (AI) and Acromioglenoid Angle (AA) of Chinese patients. The baseline was defined as the line that connected the superior and inferior osseous margins of the glenoid cavity. In order to calculate the AI, the distance from the baseline to the lateral margin of the acromion was measured and then divided by the distance from the baseline to the lateral aspect of the humeral head. The AA was defined as the angle formed by the intersecting line drawn tangent to the sclerotic line of the acromion undersurface and the baseline...

Biological characteristics and probiotic effect of Leuconostoc lactis strain isolated from the intestine of black porgy fish BJM
Zhang,Wei; Liu,Mingqi; Dai,Xianjun.
A strain of lactic acid bacteria, Leuconostoc lactis, was isolated from the intestinal tract of black porgy, Sparus macrocephalus, and identified by conventional biochemical characteristics and 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis. The isolated strain had the ability of bile tolerance and resistance to low pH, and survived well in the trypsinase and pepsin solution. But the highly concentrated dose of trypsinase and pepsin affect the viability of the isolated strain. The isolate was resistant to several antibiotics, including Cephalothin, Ceftriaxone, Imipenem and Tobramycin. The isolate could autoaggregate itself and coaggregate with other bacteria in vitro. The autoaggregation percentage increased to 23.29% after 20 h of incubation. The percentage of...

EFFECT OF THE DOWNWASH FLOW FIELD OF A SINGLE-ROTOR UAV ON DROPLET VELOCITY IN SUGARCANE PLANT PROTECTION REA
Zhang,Ping; Zhang,Wei; Sun,Haitian; Fu,Haiba; Liu,Jiansheng.
ABSTRACT Protecting against the main sugarcane diseases and insect pests requires good control at the base of the plant; therefore, higher droplet penetration is required during plant protection. The objectives of this research were to explore the movement mechanism of droplets in a sugarcane protection operation using a single-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and establish the connection between the UAV downwash flow field and droplet penetration. By considering the downwash flow field of a single-rotor UAV in layers, a theoretical model of the vertical velocities of droplets was established, and verification experiments were carried out in a sugarcane field. The results showed that the velocity of the UAV downwash flow was the main factor affecting...

Effects of karanjin on cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human A549, HepG2 and HL-60 cancer cells Biol. Res.
Guo,Jian-Ru; Chen,Qian-Qian; Lam,Christopher Wai-Kei; Zhang,Wei.
BACKGROUND: We have investigated the potential anticancer effects of karanjin, a principal furanoflavonol constituent of the Chinese medicine Fordia cauliflora, using cytotoxic assay, cell cycle arrest, and induction of apoptosis in three human cancer cell lines (A549, HepG2 and HL-60 cells). RESULTS: MTT cytotoxic assay showed that karanjin could inhibit the proliferation and viability of all three cancer cells. The induction of cell cycle arrest was observed via a PI (propidium iodide)/RNase Staining Buffer detection kit and analyzed by flow cytometry: karanjin could dose-dependently induce cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase in the three cell lines. Cell apoptosis was assessed by Annexin V-FITC/PI staining: all three cancer cells treated with karanjin...

Enhanced external counterpulsation improves cardiac function in Beagles after cardiopulmonary resuscitation BJMBR
Xiong,Jing; Zhang,Wei; Wei,Hongyan; Li,Xin; Dai,Gang; Hu,Chunlin.
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) on the cardiac function of beagle dogs after prolonged ventricular fibrillation. Twenty-four adult male beagles were randomly divided into control and EECP groups. Ventricular fibrillation was induced in the animals for 12 min, followed by 2 min of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. They then received EECP therapy for 4 h (EECP group) or not (control group). The hemodynamics was monitored using the PiCCO2 system. Blood gas and hemorheology were assessed at baseline and at 1, 2, and 4 h after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). The myocardial blood flow (MBF) was quantified by 18F-flurpiridaz PET myocardial perfusion imaging at baseline and 4 h after ROSC....

Extraction optimization of total triterpenoids from Jatropha curcas leaves using response surface methodology and evaluations of their antimicrobial and antioxidant capacities Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Wei,Lei; Zhang,Wei; Yin,Li; Yan,Fang; Xu,Ying; Chen,Fang.
Background Triterpenoids are multifunctional secondary metabolites in plants. But little information is available concerning the actual yield, optimal extraction method and pharmacologic activity with regard to triterpenoids from Jatropha curcas leaves (TJL). Hence, response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the extraction parameters. The effects of three independent variables, namely liquid-to-solid ratio, ethanol concentration and extraction time on TJL yield were investigated. TJL obtained by silica column chromatography was tested against bacterial and fungal species relevant to oral disease and wounds through broth microdilution. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and...

PCI-24781 down-regulates EZH2 expression and then promotes glioma apoptosis by suppressing the PIK3K/Akt/mTOR pathway Genet. Mol. Biol.
Zhang,Wei; Lv,Shengqing; Liu,Jun; Zang,Zhenle; Yin,Junyi; An,Ning; Yang,Hui; Song,Yechun.
PCI-24781 is a novel histone deacetylase inhibitor that inhibits tumor proliferation and promotes cell apoptosis. However, it is unclear whether PCI-24781 inhibits Enhancer of Zeste 2 (EZH2) expression in malignant gliomas. In this work, three glioma cell lines were incubated with various concentrations of PCI-24781 (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2.5 and 5 M) and analyzed for cell proliferation by the MTS 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium assay and colony formation, and cell cycle and apoptosis were assessed by flow cytometry. The expression of EZH2 and apoptosis-related proteins was assessed by western blotting. Malignant glioma cells were also transfected with EZH2 siRNA to examine how PCI-24781 suppresses tumor...

Variations in culturable bacterial communities and biochemical properties in the foreland of the retreating Tianshan No. 1 glacier BJM
Wu,Xiukun; Zhang,Gaosen; Zhang,Wei; Liu,Guangxiu; Chen,Tuo; Wang,Yun; Long,Haozhi; Tai,Xisheng; Zhang,Baogui; Li,Zhongqin.
Abstract As a glacier retreats, barren areas are exposed, and these barren areas are ideal sites to study microbial succession. In this study, we characterized the soil culturable bacterial communities and biochemical parameters of early successional soils from a receding glacier in the Tianshan Mountains. The total number of culturable bacteria ranged from 2.19 × 105 to 1.30 × 106 CFU g-1 dw and from 9.33 × 105 to 2.53 × 106 CFU g-1 dw at 4 °C and 25 °C, respectively. The number of culturable bacteria in the soil increased at 25 °C but decreased at 4 °C along the chronosequence. The total organic carbon, total nitrogen content, and enzymatic activity were relatively low in the glacier foreland. The number of culturable bacteria isolated at 25 °C was...
